A hard route with some serious technical riding. From Coniston the route climbs behind Brantwood to Lawson Ground . All rideable barring one 15 metre section where there has been some forestry work at the time of writing and the machines have made the going 'difficult'. Through Grisedale to Parkamoor where you pass a very remote but rentable cottage followed by a short steep climb. The descent to Nibthwaite follows. If you are a competent rider, helmet and elbow/knee pads in place then go have fun but be careful there are some commiting black grade sections of rock, certainly not somewhere to have an 'off'. if you're not sure walk, they're only short. The route becomes technically easier again crossing the Blawith fells but the climbs keep coming until you drop to Torver. You have an optiion here to ascend to Walna Scar Road via Tranearth (if you have the energy) or take an easy cyclepath back to Coniston. There are no cafes or shops on this route, take food and find a suitable spot to eat and admire the extensive views. |
