Starting at Traquair (village) you follow the Southern Upland Way as far as the Three Brethren. From the start you're steadily climbing up to Minch Moor. For MTBers doing trails at Elibank: you can cycle up to the SUW from Plora Rig (474 mtrs) either via a road crossing the Matador Trail or via the Enduro Track. This part of the SUW is an easy and pleasant ride, passing Hare Law (510 mtrs), Brown Knowe (523 mtrs), Broomy Lawe (463 mtrs) and the Three Brethren (406 mtrs), the mysteriously enchanting summit of a hill near Selkirk dominated by three 10-feet high cairns dating back ti the 16th century. After having passed them you go down through Yair Hill Forest, by reaching the minor road along the river Tweed you turn left and so back to Traquair. This good 30 km ride will take roughly 2,5 to 3 hours, but add a bit more for all your side steps! |
