Wenlock Edge - Long Wenlock Edge - Long Mynd

A 60 km ride that starts and ends in the National Trust car park on the outskirts of Much Wenlock. The route follows the Jack Mytton Way along Wenlock Edge and then onto Church Stretton. This stretch is rough-stuff for the entirety of Wenlock Edge then a mixture of country lanes and bridle way after the descent at Jacob's Ladder. After Church Stretton (lots of refuelling options here) it's a grind (for me at least) up the Burway and onto Long Mynd. You do get a nice view of Carding Mill Valley to your right at least. The summit at Pole Bank offers stunning views on a clear day: The Wrekin not too far away and Cadair Idris out on the Welsh coast, for example. Now it's down hill into Minton. From Minton, quiet country lanes take you back to Wenlock Edge at Longville in the Dale. Finally back along Wenlock Edge to Much Wenlock. I got by on 700x38 tyres and a bottom gear of 34x28 (but would have appreciated lower on the Burway!). There are a couple of mistakes on this route. 9 km in I ended up following a grassy track despite a great big sign saying no public access, and had to double back. On the last stretch of bridle way prior to Church Stretton I took a wrong turn onto to a footpath (that still gets you to the right place).
