RSF - The Off Road Cycling Club

Stuck in Mallaig for a couple of days I took an early CalMac sailing to Armadale for a leisurely ride in the southern part of Skye. After a short but windy crossing, I left Armadale Pier and followed the A851 north. Turning left near Ostaig House (Kilbeg) I slowly climbed to the top of this lovely road at 188 meters enjoying good views of the surrounding hills. Then swiftly all the way down to the crofting village of Tarskavaig for an unsuspected surprise: tea and cakes at the Community Hall! Well-fed I continued north to Ord, with dramatic views of the Cuillins to the North West across the Sound of Sleat. At Ord, the road turns right and an easy climb takes you from sea level to 113 meters along and across numerous brooks and rivers. Nearing there A851 I prolonged the ride a wee bit by crossing the wooded area around Feith Seileach, joining the A-road a mile further to the north and thence south to Armadale Pier for an afternoon sailing back to Mallaig. This was a leisurely ride indeed, some 24 miles, and depending on your deviations from the main road it will take some 3 to 4 hours.
