This 50 mile loop on the Isle of Skye follows both roads and tracks/paths but can, on the whole, be a tiresome affair. Especially the part after Camasunary (MBA-maintained bothy: good for an overnight stay, which I advise) were you have to cross the river at Camas Fhionnairigh (no bridge). Here the water level can be low in dry weather so try to do the loop in good (dry) weather conditions. A bit further on you have to negotiate the infamous Bad Steps and climbing north into Strath na Crèitheach there's first a rather steep climb but you get your reward all the way down into Glen Sligachan. Although tiresome at certain points this ride is a very fascinating one, what with the impressive land and sea scapes and the the sometimes haunting histories of places like Boreraig and Suisnish. A mountain bike would be the right choice for this trip. |
