On good tracks if at times a bit muddy in places, this loop can be done at almost any time of year. The only proviso being that high winds might make the moorland crossing from Darwen back to Tockholes rather trying as it's very exposed to the elements. A visit to Darwen Tower is optional. We didn't bother on this particular day as it was snowing rather a lot! The route is never to hard although never really flat. A stop at the Turton Tower cafe where they do very reasonably priced food is well worthwhile although being small, at peak times it can get full quickly. |
