This is a remote and strenuous ride on very quiet lanes starting from Brampton some 10 miles East of Carlisle. Can be done on any kind of bike but climbing gears are a must for the 4,400 feet of hills you will ascend and descend. Pick a good day as the views are expansive. Newcastleton is reached not long after crossing the Kerhopefoot Burn into Scotland and an excellent cafe stop at the Olive Tree halfway down the high street. The return leg has as much climbing as the first half but doesn't feel as strenuous. |
